A magnetic coupling is a coupling that transfers torque using a magnetic field rather than a physical mechanical connection. This allows a transmission of torque through air, media, or any flat solid non-ferrous vessel wall. The transfer occurs when the torque acts on one disk which is automatically transferred to the other disk over the gap between the driving and the driven parts.
The process is wear free and friction free. It precludes the use of shaft seals, which eventually wear out and fail from the two surfaces against each other. It is benefited by electrical, chemical and mechanical insulation. With an overload protection of 110% it also offers the benefit of slipping when maximum torque is exceeded, protecting mechanical components in the drive line from damage. The maximum shaft displacement angular +3°. The maximum shaft displacement parallel +6mm.
Magnetic couplings applications include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Pumps in closed containers, stirring devices in closed containers
- Compressors in closed containers, ventilators in closed containers
- Transmission of power to underwater robotic arms, display operations on a round scale
- Avoid engine vibration, influence of weight with weighing processes
- Contact-free torque transmission with restriction
- Mixers and agitators in the food processing and pharmaceutical industries where contents must be isolated from the drive
- In pumps for seal-less applications
- To keep corrosive, toxic, or flammable liquids from escaping into the atmosphere
- Liquid pumps, aquarium pumps and propeller systems
- To solve leakage problems in industrial pumps, reaction kettles, valves, hydraulic cylinders and more.
